Child (what type of children have we become):

Ephesians 2:1-3 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

"By nature" simply means who we are naturally. "Like the rest of mankind" simply means EVERYONE. People like to say things like, "we are all God's children", this is not correct. We are all God's creation, but we are not all God's children; if we were, John would not have said, we "have a right to become children of God."

Psalm 14:2-3 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

We are, by nature, selfish and self-serving. By nature we do not do good. Even those who have spent their entire life "doing good", the reality is, it is not without selfish motive. If this were not true, the Psalmist would not have used the word "ALL" in verse 3 above.

Psalm 53:2-4 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. 4 Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God?

Galatians 4:3  In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world.

There is an enslavement that happens to all of us; we are enslaved to, and we conform to this world. Man doesn't see himself as enslaved because there is a way that seems right to a man.

Proverbs 14:12  There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Whatever a person's view of "right living", or life after death is, that view must change. Their mind must be changed. We do not, by nature, know the true Gospel, that is why, no matter what view you have started with, it was (or still is) a wrong view and your mind must be changed. That is repentance, "a change of mind". The most damning institutions in the world are religions that demand a person follow rituals and works to enter Eternal Life. False teaching churches that do not preach the true Word of God are equally dangerous, they have a shell of Truth but are filled with lies and deception.
