Life (what kind of life have we led):

Genesis 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Yes, this is "pre-flood", but man hasn't changed, man, by himself, does not have the power to change the wickedness of his heart.

Genesis 8:21 And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.

Romans 2:14-15 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them

Gentiles, which are non-Jews by definition, but the term is also used in Paul’s writings anonymously with a non-believer. Therefore, whether a person is a believer, or non-believer, the fact that we know right from wrong shows that God’s Law is written on our heart. As such, our conscience bears witness of the fact that we have done wrong, we have sinned.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10 "I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds."

A man’s heart is deceitful. The heart deceives man into believing a multitude of things; such as, “my sins aren’t that bad, I am not like_(blank)_” OR “yes, I know I’ve done wrong but I do this and I do that” (as though their good will out weigh their bad; which is what all religions are based on). Some have lived a very good and moral life by the world's standards and their heart has led them into self-righteousness, which is one of the most deceptive things of all. The heart will even deceive some men into believing there is no life after death, even though God has put eternity on our heart.

Ecclesiastes 3:11a He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart,

Psalm 2:1-3  Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."

Just like Eve believed the lie of Satan, rather than believing God, men believe the lie that God's hand is heavy and is a burden, they continually plot to do their own thing, not understanding that God desires to redeem and bless His creation. Jesus assures us, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Why is sin a big deal?
