Why is the Blood of Jesus So Crucial?

Romans 5:9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His Blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the Wrath of God.

To really take hold of the importance of the Blood of Jesus, we should define a couple items in Romans 5:9.

    First the word JUSTIFIED:

JUSTIFIED: declared or made righteous in the sight of God. Made right in God’s sight.

If we need to be “made right” we must be “wrong” in some way. And we are “wrong”, we have all sinned, none of us have done everything perfect in thought, word, or deed our entire life.

Jesus is the only One to have ever lived a perfect sinless life, that is why He is an acceptable sacrifice for the sins of the world, He is the only one that can justify, He is the only “Justifier”.

JUSTIFIER: One who justifies; one who vindicates, supports or defends. He who pardons and absolves from guilt and punishment.

The guilt is sin, we have sinned against God. We have sinned against the One who gave us life and has shown us Grace and Mercy our entire life.

The punishment that we deserve is God’s Wrath, which is the next term we must define:

GOD’S WRATH: to suffer eternally in a place where all comforts and pleasure of any kind do not exist. All of God’s blessings have been removed for eternity. No rest, no light, no companionship, no communication, no water – nothing but on-going torment.

Someone might say, "that’s not right, that’s not fair." Consider this: my neighbors ground their daughter if she doesn’t practice her violin the allotted amount of time. She has missed out on many plans with our daughter because she is grounded for not playing her violin. I think this is unreasonable. The girls would have plans for a fun thing, they would anticipate it for weeks, the tickets are already purchased, but she can’t go because she didn’t play her violin. But the reality is, my opinion doesn’t matter. Their house, their kids, their rules. Besides, I may not know the rest of the story, maybe she was warned several times and she is being blatantly disobedient. Either way, and ultimately, my opinion does not matter.

This is like the punishment of sinners. God’s house, God's creation, God’s rules. Besides, God has warned that he who dies without being justified, without being “made right”, will suffer the Wrath of God.

That is why the Blood is so crucial! It is only the Blood of Jesus that cleanse us from our sin and it is only His Blood that can justify us before God. When we acknowledge to God that we are sinners deserving to suffer under His Wrath, plead for His mercy, and trust in Jesus alone to save us from the Wrath of God, that is when we have the right to become children of God. We must trust in Jesus alone, not any goodness or ritual of our own, but only Christ alone to save you from the Wrath to come.

Romans 5:6-11 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his Blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the Wrath of God.

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Ephesians 2:1-10 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
