Two years ago, a friend of mine had a rich uncle who died. He was very close to his uncle; they spent many weekends together watching football – they were both sports fanatics. As expected, my friend was in his uncles will. He left him a million dollars, which was an amazing blessing to my friend since he was close to losing his house after his business went bankrupt. The problem was his uncle was a bit of a nut and he had one stipulation with the million dollars he left my friend. He was required to place the million dollars on a bet of the winner of the next Super Bowl.
A few weeks later my friend had a fantasy football draft and told the group of this craziness. They decided they would all go to Vegas for the Super Bowl and be a part of this big bet. The day after the draft one of the guys went over to his house, handed him an envelope, and told him not to open it until they got to Vegas for the Super Bowl.
Five months had passed, the Super Bowl was set, the boys were on their way to Vegas. The day of the big game, they checked the spread at the sportsbook, and everyone had their opinion and logic as to why he should listen them and bet their way. As the discussions, arguments and bantering subsided, the one that gave him the envelope pulled him aside and asked, “did you bring the envelope?” When my friend pulled it from his pocket, he said, “open it up and take a look.”
Inside this envelope that had been sealed since September were handwritten scores of every game that season. Not only was every winner correctly chosen, but the score of each game was exact!
Who do you think my friend listened to when he made that bet?
By now you have figured out this was a made-up story but it is intended to have you considered the awe of the Bible. This football scores scenario pales by comparison to the “predictions” of the Bible. “Predictions”, called Prophecy, regarding God’s Redemptive plan through Jesus Christ are throughout Scripture and have come true with 100% accuracy. That is how you can know with certainty that the Bible is God’s Word.
Your bet is not a million dollars, it is much more, it is eternity. Are you going to trust the ramblings of philosophers, or man-made religions, or are you going to trust in God, the God of Scripture, who has preserved and protected His Word, who has told you how this “game” is going to end?
