As Christians we are called to put on the Armor of God - why?
The Devil, who disguises himself as an angel of Light (2Corinthians 11:14) is scheming, he's planning, he's strategizing along with all the spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12) to destroy you. There are works of darkness (Romans 13:12) that are targeted at you and in the flesh you have absolutely no ability to stop them.
Rather than putting on the armor of God, men are trusting in different armor, armor that is of the flesh (Luke 11:22).
Are you trusting in "fleshly armor"?
This armor is like heading in to battle with tin armor.
-Wealth can be gone in a moment
-Intelligence is limited
-Kings are deceptive
-Ignorance is NOT bliss
-Religion is worthless
-Relationships can be lost
Do not be a tin soldier. Besides, these things are not really armor, they are weapons of rebellion when you are trusting them, when you have made them an idol. They may have an appearance of stability and protection but they are only tin. As John said, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols."
If our war is against the spiritual forces of evil it is foolish to arm yourselves with weapons of the flesh - the battle is not of flesh and blood.
The whole armor of God, the armor of Light:
-Truth (as revealed in God's Word)
-Righteousness (Righteousness found in Christ with the ability to live out through His Spirit)
-Gospel (the Good News of Christ, that He redeems, reconciles, and regenerates sinners)
-Faith (trusting in Christ alone, believing the promises and warnings of God)
-Salvation (an assurance found through obedience to God)
-The Word of God (knowing and trusting in the absolute Truth of God's Word)
-Prayer (communication with God that includes confession of sin, thanksgiving, intercessory for others, and requests in alignment with God's will)
-Alertness (keeping alert and standing firm against the flesh and the spiritual forces of evil)
-Persevere (those who endure to the end will be saved)
